Delmarva Public Radio Inaugurates Local Concert Series Saturday, September 6
SALISBURY, MD---With shows like etown, Mountain Stage, Latino USA and World Café, Delmarva Public Radio (DPR) provides a diverse collection of music to the peninsula.
Now, it’s about to get local.
On Saturday, September 6, DPR’s WSCL 89.5 FM inaugurates its Local Concert Series with a performance by the Brasil Guitar Duo, recorded last November as part of the 2013-14 Coastal Concerts series in Lewes, DE. The show airs at noon.
Comprised of guitarists João Luiz and Douglas Lora, the duo has won the Concert Artists Guild International Competition. Classical Guitar magazine has praised them for their “maturity of musicianship and technical virtuosity.”
Their program features a mixture of classical and contemporary pieces, including Villa-Lobos’ “Prelude” from Bachianas Brasileiras, and Luiz’s original work Zanzifuga: Djavan’s Portrait.
Upcoming programs include violinist Elena Urioste and pianist Michael Brown (recorded last March as part of the Coastal Concerts series) at noon on Saturday, September 13. Additional shows will feature highlights from the 2014 Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition, including performances by Gold Medal Prize winners the Wasmuth String Quartet, recorded at the Avalon Theatre in Easton, MD.
