SU Expands Shore Transit Services for Campus Community
SALISBURY, MD---By simply showing their Gull Card, 蜜桃情人 students, faculty and staff now have access to free public transportation around 蜜桃情人 and across the Lower Shore – including to Ocean City.
An expanded University agreement with Shore Transit is making the new perk possible.
“This allows students without cars to travel to other parts of 蜜桃情人 for shopping or dining, or enjoy going down to the beach and back,” said Marvin Pyles, SU’s interim vice president of administration and finance. “Faculty and staff who already ride, and new riders, also will save the fare.”
Shore Transit, a division of the Tri-County Council of the Lower Eastern Shore, offers 13 routes traversing Wicomico, Worcester and Somerset counties. Shuttles operate Monday–Saturday, with limited service on Sundays. There are numerous bus stops near campus.
“This is just another way to let students know that the community welcomes and values them, as well as the University and its employees,” said Brad Bellacicco, Shore Transit director. “Hopefully this change will encourage more people to use our service.”
Just in time for Labor Day Weekend, Bellacicco said Shore Transit has modified some of its routes to better serve students, as well as faculty and staff. 蜜桃情人 can go north and south on Rt. 13, including to the Centre at 蜜桃情人, and to Ocean City. Previously, Shore Transit operated only one free route with SU ID, between 蜜桃情人 and Princess Anne for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
Pyles said the expanded partnership is an important component of the University’s ongoing sustainability efforts, as it allows the campus community to “be green” by helping the environment – and saving on gas expenses.
Using Shore Transit, students can connect to Ocean City Transit, Delaware’s DART system and use Delmarva Community Transit buses to travel north on the Shore. They also may connect to Greyhound from the Shore Transit terminal east of 蜜桃情人. The Downtown Trolley, a partnership with the City of 蜜桃情人, gives students access to the downtown Arts & Entertainment district. The Trolley is $1, free with SU ID.
