SU Celebrates Recent Faculty Successes
SALISBURY, MD---蜜桃情人 celebrates the following recent faculty successes:
Egan Selected for Leadership Maryland Class of 2021
Dr. Chrys Egan, associate dean of SU’s Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts, joins more than 50 other leaders from across the state as a member of the Leadership Maryland Class of 2021.
Founded in 1992, Leadership Maryland is a non-profit organization designed to inform top-level executives about critical issues, challenges and opportunities in the state.
In addition to her duties with the Fulton School, Egan is an SU professor of communication with more than 80 articles and publications on communication, leadership and culture. She also holds leadership positions in several national and international leadership and communications associations.
At SU, she is the director of the Youth Innovation Academy; a founding co-director of the Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity (OURCA); and a Business, Economic and Community Outreach Network (BEACON) scholar in residence.
French Serves as Panelist for Documentary Premiere
Dr. Kara French, associate professor of history, recently served as a panelist for a virtual discussion held as part of the world premiere of the documentary Sipe: Sex, Lies and the Priesthood.
The film debuted on the Salem (MA) Film Fest’s streaming channel. Directed by Joe Cultrera, it explores the life and work of the late A.W. Richard Sipe, scholar of sex, celibacy and clergy sexual abuse in the Catholic church. Sipe’s research was featured in the 2015 Academy Award-winning movie Spotlight.
French was joined on the panel by other scholars, as well as Sipe’s wife, Marianne, and friends. The documentary and discussion are available at the through Thursday, March 4.
Pope, Surak Publish in ‘eJournal of Public Affairs’
Drs. Alexander Pope, associate professor of secondary education and director of SU’s Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement (PACE), and Sarah Surak, associate professor of political science and environmental studies, and former PACE co-director, recently published the article “Discipline-Oriented Citizenship” in the scholarly publication eJournal of Public Affairs.
Their paper introduces a framework for considering civic engagement in higher education and how its implementation varies across disciplines. It also examines the role of civic engagement in teaching. The article is available .
